Lighthouse Church: A New Home, A Bright Future
In June 2023, Lighthouse Church began as a vision—one rooted in biblical truth, free from denominational constraints, and committed to fostering a Christ-centered community. Pastor Steve felt a strong calling to create a place where believers could grow in faith, worship freely, and live out God’s truth. But before Lighthouse Church had a congregation, a building, or even a name, God was already at work.
One day, while searching for a name for this new church, Pastor Steve noticed a stained glass lighthouse in his home. “Thank you, God” he thought. And with that simple moment of inspiration, Lighthouse Church was born.
Humble Beginnings and Unwavering Faith
From the start, Lighthouse Church was built on faith and dedication. With no permanent location, the congregation gathered each Sunday in the basement of the Highlands Senior Center. Every week, members set up and broke down metal chairs, music equipment, and tables—transforming the space into a house of worship. While the setting was simple, the faith was strong.
“We didn’t care where we met, we just wanted to come together to worship the Holy Father in a meaningful way,” shared church member Joseph Jourdan. And worship they did. As the weeks went by, God began moving within the congregation, drawing more and more people into this growing community.
A Door Opened at Just the Right Time
As Lighthouse Church grew, so did its need for a larger space. The basement of the Highlands Senior Center could no longer contain the growing number of worshippers. Just as the church found itself in need, God provided the perfect answer.
Through the generosity and support of Jim Harkins and Harford Bank, Lighthouse Church found its new home in Whitehall, MD. The timing was nothing short of divine. The Highlands Center had renovations scheduled during the Christmas season, which meant Lighthouse would soon be without a place to worship. But God had a greater plan.
A Christmas Miracle
On December 24, 2024, Lighthouse Church celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony—just in time for Christmas. What better way to commemorate the birth of Christ than by stepping into the next chapter of Lighthouse Church’s journey?
With a permanent home, the congregation can now continue its mission of worship, discipleship, and outreach without limitations. The journey from a small basement gathering to a thriving church has been a testament to God’s faithfulness and provision. “When you follow the truth of God’s word, miracles happen” Pastor Smith remarks.
A Bright Future Ahead
Lighthouse Church is more than just a building—it is a beacon of hope, a place of worship, and a testament to the power of faith. From humble beginnings to a new home, this church stands as a reminder that when we trust in God’s plan, He provides in ways beyond our imagination.
As we step into this new season, we invite you to join us—whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or are just discovering Lighthouse Church. Together, we will continue to seek God, grow in faith, and shine His light for all to see.
Welcome home, Lighthouse Church. The best is yet to come.
